Buying the 10-22 Canon was a big deal for me since the price tag was so high and I drove the poor salesperson to the edge of her patience. I wanted to make very sure that I would be getting the very best lens for my money and so I took my camera with me to the shop so that I could compare a few lenses. I made sure to take the same photo with each lens and then compared them on the shop computer after we had copied the images over from the memory card. It took a while but in the end, it was clear that the Canon was the winner. I bought the lens and walked away knowing that I had made a well informed and sensible choice. I know that some new lenses has been released in the meantime so while the Canon might not be the cream of the crop anymore it is still a viable option.

Believe it or not but I have actually been able to take a few very nice portrait photos with the Tokina 11-16 f2.8 camera lens. Portrait photos are notoriously tricky to take with an ultra wide-angle lens but that does not mean that it is impossible. The trick is to frame your shots in such a way that there is no distortion. My biggest problem with the lens at first was changing the focal range. The reason for this is that the Tokina changes from left to right instead of the more tradition right to left that I am used to with my Canon. This meant that I was often at the opposite focus range than what I was expecting but with time even this became more natural. Also, watch out for flaring, as this lens is prone to it. In some instances where there was direct light in my photos I even had a rainbow in the corner of the shot so it is definitely a nuisance.

I had no idea that the music scene in Newcastle was so great. Maybe it is because I have locked myself away studying for too long, or maybe I am a geek. Either way the night life is kicking so I think I am going to start seeing more Newcastle gigs. The problem is that there are like a billion different gigs to choose from. Well maybe not that many but I know I saw a list that said there were over 4,000. I suppose I should just start hitting venues at random and figure out who I like. Or maybe I should start checking out the bands on You Tube. Either way I am done with my studies, have a good career and now it’s time for me to party hard and enjoy my life. When I was younger going to gigs was the best way to meet cool people and I am assuming the same is still true.
